CALIFORNIA STATE FAIR WINE COMPETITION

The California Exposition and State Fair The California Exposition and State Fair is the annual state fair for the State of California. The annual event is commonly known as the California State Fair and the current site is commonly known as Cal Expo.  is now accepting entries for the 2004 Commercial Wine Competition. Limited to California wines, the competition was first held in 1855. Entry forms, fees, wine labels and the wine may be submitted May 10-28 to Expo Center, Building 6, on the grounds of Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd., Sacramento. The judging is June 18-20 and winners will be announced July 15 at the California Grape & Gourmet (advance tickets are $50 and available online at www.bigfun.org). Happy hours differ somewhat from bar to bar.

But at a recently opened sushi bar and Japanese cafe called Tomo Sushi in Burbank, happy hours mean a nonalcoholic non·al·co·hol·ic
adj.
A beverage usually containing less than 0.5 percent alcohol by volume.
 special sushi menu where all items are priced at $2.75.

Tomo's happy hours are between 5 and 7:30 p.m. daily. The $2.75 list contains a dozen hand roll items, seven cut rolls and a dozen regular sushi snacks that include such favorites as albacore albacore: see tuna.

Open daily except Monday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m.), Tomo has a number of lunch specials ranging from $4.50 to $8.
