GOOD STUDENTS RIDE IN STYLE LIMOUSINE RIDE REWARDS EFFORTS.

NEWHALL - It was all about style and reward Friday, when a group of kids from local schools was greeted after school by a stretch limo and whisked around town for earning good grades.

Eight members of the Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Community Center's Future Leaders Future Leaders is a UK schools-led charitable organisation that aims to widen the pool of talented leaders especially for urban challenging secondary schools. It was founded in March 2006 by Nat Wei, a former founder of Teach First.  youth group were selected for the limo ride and dinner at Hamburger Hamlet, a treat that had both students and parents at Placerita Junior High gawking at the luxury wheels.

``Man, we're going to ride around and just chit-chat,'' said Celia Gudino, 13, when she climbed into the loaded limo. ``All our friends wanted to know what we were doing.''

Community Center recreation leader Yolanda Calderon said the kids were so jazzed they tried to get an announcement made about their waiting limousine.

``They were so excited, one of the kids asked me to have an announcement over the loudspeaker loudspeaker or speaker, device used to convert electrical energy into sound. It consists essentially of a thin flexible sheet called a diaphragm that is made to vibrate by an electric signal from an amplifier.  telling them their limo was waiting outside,'' Calderon said. ``That didn't happen, but this was actually an incentive for them to do better (in school).''

``The best part about this whole thing is everything,'' said Cristina Murillo, 13. ``The car is really pretty.''

The children selected were Gudino, Murillo and 13-year-old Karlet Vasquez from Placerita Junior High; Alejandra Martinez and Crystal Chavez, both 10, from Newhall School; Sara Hernandez, 10, from Old Orchard School; and 11-year-old Rajpal Singh from a school in Palmdale.
