In 2003, Southland sports fans got to watch the Mighty Ducks advance to the Stanley Cup final. The Dodgers remained in playoff contention until the final weeks of the National League baseball season.

Golf fans also had the opportunity to watch eventual Masters champion Mike Weir defeat Nick Price in a playoff in the PGA Tour's Nissan Open at Pacific Palisades' Riviera Country Club The Riviera Country Club is a country club with a championship golf course. It is located in Pacific Palisades, California, within the city limits of Los Angeles, California. The country club opened in 1926, with George C. Thomas, Jr. as the course architect.  in February.

LPGA superstar Annika Sorenstam won the Office Depot Championship The Office Depot Championship was an annual golf tournament for professional female golfers on the LPGA Tour. It took place every year from 1997 through 2005 at various sites in the South Carolina and in the Los Angeles area.  at Tarzana's El Caballero Country Club in April, and the Champions Tour (formerly called the PGA Senior Tour) made a stop in March at Valencia Country Club, where Tom Purtzer's 58-foot eagle putt on the final hole won the SBC Senior Championship.
