THOUSAND OAKS Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  - More than halfway through the season, Cal Lutheran running back Charlie Brown had yet to carry the ball for a team with a losing record. Two games later, the sophomore is the Kingsmen's leading rusher, and Cal Lutheran is in contention for its first conference title since 1997.

Brown ran for 193 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries Saturday Saturday: see week; Sabbath.  to give him 320 yards and four touchdowns in the past two games and give the Kingsmen a 31-20 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) is a college athletic conference that operates in the NCAA's Division III. ``I just run as hard as I can whenever I can,'' said Brown, a Moorpark High graduate. ``Nothing different than usual. My offensive line is great; they deserve a lot of the credit.''

Brown's biggest run of the afternoon was an 80-yard touchdown with 4:06 remaining in the first quarter to put Cal Lutheran up 10-0. He added a 1-yard scoring run less than a minute before halftime to again give the Kingmen (4-3, 3-1 SCIAC SCIAC SIGINT Correlation Integration & Analysis Capability ) a 10-point advantage after the Staggs (4-2, 2-1) briefly took the lead on back-to-back touchdowns by Ryan Kunzi and Spencer Schomer schomer

Brown, who also caught two passes for 20 yards, was far from Cal Lutheran's only source of offense as the Kingsmen gained 475 total net yards.

Cal Lutheran quarterback Casey Preston completed 14 of 36 passes for 222 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions. Jimmy Fox was the Kingsmen's leading receiver with 119 yards on seven catches, including a 28-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter for the game's final score.

Tyler Ruiz, Cal Lutheran's previous leading rusher, added a 1-yard scoring run. His 16 yards on four carries ranked second on the team behind Brown.

The victory is the Kingsmen's third in a row and second consecutive against a team previously undefeated in SCIAC play. Cal Lutheran's two remaining opponents have a combined one conference victory.

``We have a great chance to win a conference title,'' Brown said.
