IT'S time to dust off the teapot again - scientists have revealed a strong brew can help fight off cancer.

Researchers said the levels of antioxidants in tea, which attack cancer-causing free radicals, reach their peak after five minutes.

The revelation came after scientists at Rowett Research Institute The Rowett Research Institute is a research centre for studies into food and nutrition located in Aberdeen, Scotland. History
The institute was founded in 1913 when the University of Aberdeen and the North of Scotland College of Agriculture agreed that an "Institute for

They discovered the level of antioxidants were 60 per cent higher in volunteers who drank tea which had brewed for five minutes over those who enjoyed a cuppa made from dunking a tea bag into a mug of boiled water.

Researchers also said there was no extra benefit for leaving tea to brew for more than five minutes.

But there is no need to drink a cuppa black as adding milk had no effect on the level of friendly cancer-fighting antioxidants.

Garry Duthis, co-author of the study, said we need to revert back to the more traditional ways of brewing a cuppa in a teapot.

He added: "We have established the length of time you infuse in·fuse

And he said dipping the tea bag means that we are getting fewer of "these potentially beneficial chemicals" than our ancestors did.

Other studies published in he European Journal of Cancer Prevention advised that drinking two cups of tea a day could cut the risk of developing skin cancer by a massive 65 per cent.
