A study has revealed the takeaway - often consumed after a night's drinking - is packed with "heart-attack" ingredients. Food standards officers found the average doner contains 98 per cent of the recommended daily salt intake and 148 per cent of daily saturated fat. The worst one they came across contained 1,990 calories - 95 per cent of a woman's recommended daily calorific calorific generating heat measurable in calories. intake - and that was before any sauces were added. Geoffrey Theobald, chairman of Lacors, said: "We'd never consider kebabs part of a calorie-controlled diet, but the levels of saturated fat and salt in some is a serious cause for concern. It is also totally unacceptable that people with certain faiths are unknowingly eating meats that are against their beliefs." He said that if people still fancied a doner they should opt for the smaller size - and shops should think about reducing their portions. "This would be an easy and cost effective way for small businesses to help people eat sensibly," he said.
