Lee Krieger probably still doesn't like it. Ferguson and Krieger shot rounds of 4-over-par 76 to finish in a tie for the A flight of the Ventura County Junior Golf Association Saticoy Junior Championships at Saticoy Country Club. Ferguson prevailed on a playoff, in which the tie is broken by determing the best score on the toughest holes. Eric Bensley finished third with a 7-over-par 79. Colin O'Boyle won the B flight with a 4-over-par 76, followed by Jason Wilk (83) and Kyle Thurston (84). In C flight for girls, Charlene Alfonso won with an 82. Marissa Sepe was second with an 89. Mollie Begalla was third with 89. Werner qualifies Jay Werner of Calabasas shot a 74 at Antelope Valley Country Club to finish among the 13 qualifiers for the SCGA Mid-Amateurs Championship. The event is scheduled for Sept. 28-29 at Saticoy Country Club. Ventura City Juniors Ramie ramie: see nettle. Sprinkling shot a 7-over-par 41 to capture the Ventura City Junior Division Championship in the 11-12 year old division at Saticoy Regional Golf Course. Colin Wilcox was second with a 44. Malachi Mahan was third at 45. Katrina Sutton won the girls' division with a 48. Ashley Frienberg was second with a 59. Youth Benefit Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Camarillo is holding its youth benefit golf tournament on Aug. 28 at River Ridge Golf Course. Camarillo SpringsThe course is accepting applications to join the course's American Golf Foundation to serve as ambassadors on the course and greeters at the pro shop. Sisters of Mercy Classic On Aug. 31, a benefit tournament is taking place for St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard and St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo at Sherwood Country Club. Junior championshipsThe Simi Hills Junior Golf Club Championships take place Sept. 12-13. About 60 local juniors are expected to play, according to pro Jeff Lindgren. Players must be paid club members of the Simi Hills Junior Golf Club to participate in the tournament. The dues are $25 per year. Entries are closed, but the Southern California PGA Parent-Junior Championships will be held at Simi Hills on Sept. 6. Juniors are expected from all over Southern California to play in the 144-player tournament. |
