GOLF NOTEBOOK: QUARTZ HILL PUSHES SAUGUS TO LIMIT.

Chemically, it is silicon dioxide, SiO2.  Hill pushed hard, but second-ranked Saugus kept alive the longest regular-season win streak in Daily News-area girls' golf for one final match last Wednesday, edging the host Rebels 227-235 at Rancho ran·cho

In a matchup that brought together four members of the 2003 Daily News All-Area team, Quartz Hill sophomore and 2003 Golden League MVP (Multimedia Video Processor) A high-speed DSP chip from Texas Instruments, introduced in 1994. Officially introduced as the TMS320C80, it combines RISC technology with the functionality of four DSPs on one chip.  Danielle O'Neil of ninth-ranked Quartz Hill took medalist honors at even-par 36.

Quartz Hill, which got a 2-3 team effort from Katelin Smith (47) and Ally Erdmand (49) against Saugus, fell to 3-1.

Quartz Hill will be back in action against the Foothill League at 1 p.m. Wednesday, hosting Valencia at Rancho Vista. The Rebels, who include O'Neil and senior Rashika Das - another returning all-area player - among their scoring leaders, also are scheduled to play Hart in a match Oct. 21 at Valencia Country Club.

All three Foothill teams are expected to contend for the title Saugus has won the past two seasons. Foothill League play starts next Tuesday at Vista Valencia GC.

 Quartz Hill faced Golden League rival Lancaster title the day before the Rebels faced Saugus and won 219-280. O'Neil led the Rebels with a 38 in a match that saw Lancaster come within a stroke of its school record.
