GOLF BEAT : ALEMANY COACH JUST KEEPS WINNING.Golf is much different than girls' basketball, but for coach Melissa Hearlihy the victories are just as sweet. Hearlihy, who has built the Alemany girls' basketball program into one of the best in the Southern Section, has another winner in her first year with the Indians' golf team. Alemany, led by senior captain Chuck Ruiz and junior star Brian Woolf, is 8-0 with a team deep enough to play in two tournaments simultaneously. Thursday, while Ruiz, Woolf, Marc Zien and Mike Scott were representing the Indians in a Palm Springs tournament at Desert Princess, another team - made up of Robbie Clemente, Anthony Harju, Matt Padilla and Jeff Downey - represented Alemany in the DeBell tournament. Clemente shot 9-over par 80 to place third in B flight. The Indians finished among the top 10 in both tournaments, placing eighth at Desert Princess and ninth at DeBell. In the United States of America, Notre Dame won't meet until the next-to-last week of the regular season, but another of the area's best rivalries takes place twice next week. Undefeated Hart (9-0) hosts Westlake (9-2) Monday at Vista Valencia, then the teams hook up again Wednesday at Camarillo Springs. Annually two of the best teams in the area, Hart and Westlake appear ready to hold that position beyond this year. The Indians have no seniors among their top five players while Westlake has just one. Sophomore J.T. But on their own, they have been spectacular. They are 9-4 this year. Swisher's squad is led by sophomore Brad Uptgraft and includes freshman David Cox among its top six scorers. The JV team has six freshmen who shoot in the low 70s at Valencia's par-61 Vista Valencia course. Valencia quality starts at the top, apparently.
