GOING BY THE BOOK; RULES OF THE GAME INTRIGUING TO VISTA VALENCIA'S SCHMIDT.Byline: Kristen Davis Daily News Staff Writer Maxine Schmidt is 70 years old, but she knows the type of stress that comes with university entrance exams. Schmidt isn't tested in English or math competency, however. Golf rules rack her brain. Schmidt, a Northridge resident and member of Vista Valencia's women's golf club, is an expert on golf's rules. When you're applying them, you feel like you're helping a player improve their number of strokes,'' said Schmidt, who began golfing in 1981.
