GOBBLERS GALORE; EFFORT TO PROVIDE BOUNTIFUL THANKSGIVING FOR NEEDY.

``Operation Gobble'' got under way Monday as hundreds of turkeys were sent off to food banks across Ventura County.

 families through the food banks was sponsored by the Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Water Co.

``They're just wonderful,'' said Pauline Saterbo, administrator of the Manna food bank in Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown. . ``Every year without fail we know we can count on them.''

Manna has collected about 100 turkeys so far, and should be able to cover the Thanksgiving Thanksgiving

``We've had a lot of people donate the 5- and 10-pound bags of potatoes,'' Saterbo said.

Each box weighed nearly 50 pounds, and contained four turkeys.

With 19 turkeys from the Southern California Water Co. and 200 more from Troop Real Estate, Simi Valley's Care and Share now has 350 turkeys on hand for Thanksgiving, said Willa Dobbs, Care and Share's director.

``I don't need any more,'' Dobbs said. ``I have a home for all of them. We're meeting the need.''

About 50,000 turkeys get distributed in California for Thanksgiving every year through Operation Gobble 1. gobble - To consume, usually used with "up". "The output spy gobbles characters out of a tty output buffer."

``This is a gift from the stockholders to the various organizations,'' said Skip Faria, superintendent of the Simi Valley area of the Southern California Water Co.

The program is now in its 11th year. The water companies work with the offices of various legislators to help find agencies to distribute the food, Faria said.
