GO-VIDEO RECEIVES FOUR MORE U.S. PATENTS COVERING DUAL-DECK(TM) VCRs AND A CABLE BOX SIGNAL SPLITTER

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- GO-VIDEO Inc. (AMEX: VCR), a leading U.S. video technology company and patent holder of America's only Dual-Deck(TM) VCR, has been issued four new U.S. patents, according to R. Terren Dunlap, chairman and chief executive officer.
The first patent (U.S. Patent No. 5,194,963) issued relates to high- quality copying for the Dual-Deck Videocassette Recorder. The patent speaks to a unique circuit that transfers direct Y-FM with color-under to Y-FM with color-under, resulting in high-quality duplications of videocassette tape for in-home use. This circuit is identified by the registered trademark AmeriChrome(R).
Another patent (U.S. Patent No. 5,216,552) was issued to the company dealing with a unique Dual-Deck VCR video switching system with or without a built-in tuner.
GO-VIDEO's third new patent (U.S. Patent No. 5,216,499) -- developed by the company's chief engineer, John Berkheimer -- was issued for a Cable Select Box Supplemental Splitter, identified by the trademark Cable Ready Plus(TM). This patent speaks to a device that simplifies the cable box connection to a VCR and TV, and permits the user to view one TV show while simultaneously recording a second on the VCR without external A/B switches. It also restores the PIP (picture-in-picture) function for TVs when used with the many cable boxes that take away that feature.
The fourth new patent (U.S. Patent No. 5,189,691) -- invented for the company by Dunlap -- is for a VCR with Video Phone Answering Capability. The patent speaks to a Dual-Deck VCR that includes an answering machine logic that allows the VCR to be used to answer a video telephone system. The video cassette decks of the VCR are switched between and are shared by the VCR and telephone answering functions. The VCR can be switched between its answering mode of operation and its VCR mode by a remote control device.
Dunlap said, "These additional patent rights strengthen GO-VIDEO's position as a U.S. source for VCRs and creator of superior copying capabilities. American consumers currently own more than 110 million camcorders and VCRs, with the number increasing by 40,000 each day. High-quality copies of any video tape are now available with the touch of a single button on only one machine through the use of our company's patented Dual-Deck VCR with AmeriChrome circuitry."
The GO-VIDEO chief executive also emphasized the fact that owners of Dual-Deck VCRs can now more easily edit tapes from their camcorders and record a television show while watching a movie with the new technology.
Dunlap credited GO-VIDEO's entire research team -- led by Berkheimer -- with "again demonstrating its technological leadership and innovation. These efforts have effectively positioned the company as a leader in the consumer electronics field."
GO-VIDEO Inc. is the designer, patent-holder and marketer of the only Dual-Deck VCR sold in the United States and the only videocassette recorder that easily can copy any VHS video tape. The GO-VIDEO Dual- Deck VCR is sold through prominent retail outlets nationwide and is featured in numerous popular catalogs. A leader in VCR technology, GO- VIDEO, through continuous research, recently has added innovative features, developed creative companion products and expanded its product line to serve the needs of a broader range of retail consumers.
