HUNT Environment Reporter AN APPEAL for help cleaning up the Tyne was answered by local workers. The event, at Fish Quay Sands, North Shields, was part of this year's Clean Tyne Project Riverbank Raids, which aim to tidy up the banks of the river and raise awareness of environmental issues. It was organised by the Clean Tyne Project, a partnership between the Port of Tyne, SITA Trust and the Tyne-bordering councils of Gateshead, South Tyneside, North Tyneside and Newcastle. The Tribunal Service supplies administration support to judges preparing cases for hearing. Admin officer Peter Pooley and his team were delighted to be able to help out. "I work and live in North Shields, so this project means a lot to me," said Peter. "The difference to the Fish Quay Sands beach in only a few hours is amazing." Keith Newman, the volunteer co-ordinator for the project, explained how important the clean-up was. He said "A lot of time and investment is being spent to make this part of the river an excellent place to work, live and spend leisure time. The volunteers today have really made a big difference."
