The girl told her mum in an emotional letter that she and her young brother were "frightened fright·en

The note added: "You know how dangerous you are when you get drunk. Don't tell me you've stopped because ... I smelled your breath in court and you'd been drinking."

When three Appeal Court judges saw it they overturned a High Court ruling and gave custody of the children to their 61-year-old father in Norfolk.

But the 47-year-old mother started separate wardship proceedings in the High Court, which ruled the children should be returned to her. The dad said: "My son has already been handed over. We have hardly heard from him since.

"My daughter is so determined she will not go that she is threatening to run away.

"I could be arrested for refusing to force her but what can I do?"
