MOBY (jargon) moby - /moh'bee/ (From MIT, seems to have been in use among model railroad fans years ago. Derived from Melville's "Moby Dick", some say from "Moby Pickle") 1. Large, immense, complex, impressive. "A Saturn V rocket is a truly moby frob.  unveils Hotel, his fifth studio album, on Monday, and it maintains his progress from studio geek to fully-fledged rock star. For the first time there are no vocal samples - he does the singing on 10 of the 14 tracks, there are two duets with Laura Dawn plus two instrumentals - and, with the exception of Scott Frassetto's drumming contribution, he plays all the instruments. He also handled production, engineering and mixing and, presumably pre·sum·a·ble

Why Hotel? Because he's fascinated by them. "The most intimate human things happen in hotels," he explains, "yet they feel so anonymous. Every 24 hours the hotel is just wiped clean.

"That might sound odd, but I think that is somehow analogous to the human condition."

THE much-touted Rilo Kiley release new single Portions For Foxes on Monday. Written by vocalist Jenny Lewis and guitarist Blake Sennett, it's taken from their More Adventurous album.
