TOP Midlands choir Ex Cathedra ex ca·the·dra

 will be marking the 300th anniversary of a French composer in Warwickshire next week.

The choir will be performing some of the best works by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, who died in Paris on February 24, 1704.

The anniversary concert at St Mary's Church in Warwick on Tuesday, is part of Warwick Arts Society's monthly concert series at the church.

The 40-strong choir will be directed by Jeffrey Skidmore Jeffrey Skidmore, born in 1951 in Birmingham, England, is the conductor and artistic director of Ex Cathedra, the flagship early music ensemble for Birmingham and the West Midlands.  and will be accompanied by two organs, two theorbos, a bass viol, and a great bass viol.

The programme includes Mass For Four Choirs, Vesper Psalms and Salve Regina for three choirs.

The Birmingham-based choir is on a definite roll these days. They're always hugely popular when they sing in Warwickshire and their CDs attract rave reviews.

Their new CD of South American baroque music was the editor's choice in The Gramophone last August and has been getting lots of airplay air·play

A new Ex Cathedra programme featuring South American baroque music will open this year's Warwick Festival on June 25.

UP-AND-COMING Romanian pianist Diana Ionescu will be playing in Warwickshire next week to give a cash boost to a music festival.

She will be in concert at Stratford Town Hall next Friday to raise funds for this year's Stratford Music Festival in October.

The 22-year-old has come to England to complete her studies at the Birmingham Conservatoire conservatoire

Next Friday's concert features a varied programme with works by Scarlatti, Schumann, Bach-Busoni, Schubert and Prokofiev.
