GM SPONSORS WHITE HOUSE 200TH ANNIVERSARY VIDEO TOUR
DETROIT, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- General Motors Corporation

(NYSE: GM), the White House Historical Association and WQED-TV have teamed to provide a video tour of the White House in honor of its 200th anniversary in 1992.
General Motors is underwriting the cost of the 1/2-hour video and accompanying viewer's guide, called "Within These Walls: A Visit to the White House."
Additionally, GM is funding the cost of 30,000 video cassettes of the tour and companion teacher guide being made available to schools participating in the White House 200th anniversary art exhibition and educational program, co-sponsored by Very Special Arts and the White House Historical Association, a not-for-profit private organization.
Very Special Arts, an educational affiliate of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts serving individuals with disabilities through programs in the arts, has invited student artists with disabilities in upper elementary, middle and junior high school and in special education classes to create an individual work of art reflecting the exhibition theme, "Life in the White House."
From among the works created nationwide, one work from each state, commonwealth, territory and the District of Columbia will be selected by a national jury for an exhibition that will be on display at the White House on Oct. 13, 1992, the day of the 200th anniversary celebration.
"General Motors is proud and honored to participate in the White House Bicentennial in 1992 through the underwriting of this White House video tour and accompanying educational materials," said Marina Whitman, GM vice president and group executive in charge of the Public Affairs and Marketing Group. "They will enable students to enhance their understanding of the role the White House has played in American history.
"I'm also delighted that GM's participation is helping Very Special Arts to commemorate this historic event with an exhibition of works of art by student artists with disabilities."
The video, a GM Mark of Excellence presentation, and accompanying guides were written and produced by WQED, the Pittsburgh station of the Public Broadcasting Service.
It will be shown in conjunction with various public programs at the National Archives, the Presidential Libraries, the Smithsonian Institution and other historic sites during the 200th anniversary year.
Featuring introductory and closing remarks by President and Mrs. Bush, the video also is available for purchase through the White House Historical Association.
The White House video and accompanying materials continue GM's association with educational programs for school-age children. Past program subjects have included George Washington, the Civil War, the 1988 presidential election, the environment ("I Need the Earth, the Earth Needs Me" video), and GM's solar race car, Sunraycer.
