GM SEEKS BUYER FOR BEARING BUSINESS
SANDUSKY, Ohio, Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- General Motors (NYSE: GM)

announced today it is seeking a buyer for its worldwide bearing business with facilities in Sandusky; Bristol, Conn.; and Cadiz, Spain. The three facilities are part of GM's Delco Chassis Division based in Dayton, Ohio.
The Sandusky and Cadiz operations are leading manufacturers of bearings, including integral wheel spindle bearings and speed sensing bearings, features important to the design of advanced brake and traction-control systems. The Bristol facility produces a variety of bearings for the automotive and aerospace industries.
The Sandusky, Cadiz and Bristol operations collectively employ approximately 3,000 hourly and salaried employees.
"This action is consistent with the priorities GM has set to focus its capital resources on improving its overall competitive position," explained George G. Johnston, general manager of Delco Chassis Division.
"Specifically, GM regards the wheel spindle business as having excellent growth potential with its established international customer base," he said. "A sale is intended to position this strong and vital business to continue to serve the industry for the benefit of its customers, employees, suppliers and local communities.
"Although the sale or lease of the Bristol facility had been previously announced, we are including the total business in this announcement because it rounds out the bearing business portfolio for a prospective buyer."
