GM EMPLOYEES SUPPORT MICHIGAN HARVEST GATHERING

DETROIT, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of the third annual Michigan Harvest Gathering, General Motors (NYSE: GM) reported today its employees in the state contributed $48,583 and 16,776 pounds of food to benefit the less fortunate.
The campaign was coordinated by the Michigan Department of Agriculture, the Food Bank Council of Michigan, with the support of Gov. and Mrs. John Engler. "This program is an outstanding example of how the public and private sectors can work together to effectively address the issue of hunger in our state," noted Bruce G. MacDonald, GM's vice president of Corporate Communications.
"All of the GM team can take pride in the fact that so many of our employees have once again stepped forward and assisted their fellow citizens," said MacDonald.
Over the three-week, Oct. 25 through Nov. 12 period, GM volunteers conducted in-house campaigns to encourage fellow workers to bring in canned goods and make financial contributions.
To help jump-start employee fundraising efforts, a grant of $15,000 was made by the GM Foundation to the Food Bank Council of Michigan. In total, GM's overall support of $48,583 represented the largest single gift by any company in the state.
Food goods and proceeds will be distributed throughout a statewide network of 15 regional food banks and outlying areas across Michigan.
