 GM ELECTS HENDRY VICE PRESIDENT
 DETROIT, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The election of Robert W. Hendry as


a vice president of General Motors (NYSE: GM) in charge of finance for North American Operations (NAO) was announced today by Robert C. Stempel, chairman of the GM board of directors.
 Hendry will begin work on his new assignment immediately, but will continue to serve in his present capacity as managing director of GM de Mexico until a successor is named in Mexico.
 In his new position at NAO, Hendry will be responsible for the financial affairs of GM's North American Operations. Selected financial and administrative functions of GM's Chevrolet-Pontiac-GM of Canada Group, Buick-Oldsmobile-Cadillac Group, Truck and Bus Group, and Powertrain Division will be consolidated under him at NAO. In this role he will be a member of the NAO strategy board and report to the GM president.
 Hendry, 47, graduated from the University of Detroit and earned an MBA at Michigan State University. He joined the GM financial staff in Detroit in 1964, and has served in a variety of executive assignments related to financial administration, marketing and manufacturing in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Mexico during the past 28 years.
 In 1983, Hendry helped negotiate GM's joint venture with Toyota in California, and subsequently became an officer of the company when New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI) was established.
 He was promoted to his present post at GM de Mexico last fall.
