GM ANNOUNCES TRANSFER OF MANAGEMENT FOR PITTSBURGH METAL FABRICATION FROM LANSING AUTOMOTIVE DIVISION TO CADILLAC/LUXURY CAR ENGINEERING

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- James R. Wiemels, manufacturing manager of Lansing Automotive Division, and F. Thomas Brady, manufacturing manager of Metal Centers for the Cadillac/Luxury Car Engineering and Manufacturing Division (CLCD), jointly announced the transfer of management responsibility for Pittsburgh Metal Fabrication from Lansing Automotive Division to CLDC, effective immediately.
This will allow General Motors (NYSE: GM) to further integrate best practices in engineering and manufacturing in GM's stamping operations and make better use of the Pittsburgh facility for Service Parts Operations.
Pittsburgh Metal Fabrication makes parts for GM's Service Parts Operations. The plant's major metal parts include hoods, fenders, quarter panels, doors and roofs.
At the Pittsburgh facility, Plant Manager Alston O. Canton said, "This transfer of management responsibility will in no way change our focus on customer satisfaction, continuous improvement and world-class quality. As a member of the CLCD Metal Centers group, Pittsburgh will benefit from the high level of expertise and synergies of the group. This will enhance our ability to better serve our customers."
The Pittsburgh facility was constructed in 1948-50, and began production in 1950. The plant has 1,000 employes and more than 1 million square feet of production and support activities.
Brady reports to Donald E. Hackworth, the general manager of Cadillac/Luxury Car Engineering and Manufacturing Division, responsible for the development, design, engineering and manufacture of all front- wheel-drive luxury cars for General Motors.
The division also has responsibility for metal centers in: Grand Rapids, Grand Blanc, Kalamazoo, and Pontiac, Mich., Parma and Mansfield, Ohio, and Marion, Ind.
