GM'S NORTH AMERICAN OPERATIONS APPOINTS GENERAL MANAGER
 OF MARKETING/ADVERTISING
DETROIT, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The appointment, effective immediately, of Philip Guarascio as general manager of Marketing and Advertising for General Motors' (NYSE: GM) North American Operations (NAO) was announced today by J. Michael Losh, GM vice president and group executive-in-charge of North American Vehicle Sales and Marketing.
Guarascio, who will report to Losh, had been executive-in-charge of the Corporate Marketing and Advertising function of the GM Communications and Marketing Staff since 1991.
Losh said the corporate marketing and advertising function is being aligned under NAO as part of the rationalization of GM central office staffs with North American activities.
"Phil Guarascio brings to NAO a wealth of experience in marketing and advertising," Losh said. "We will draw on that experience as part of our efforts to quickly restore profitability to our organization and increase market share."
Guarascio will be primarily responsible for working with the NAO vehicle divisions to increase marketing effectiveness and efficiency; worldwide advertising agency resource management; and managing consolidated media placement efforts.
Additionally, Guarascio will continue to manage corporate image advertising activities and serve as a resource to GM business units throughout the organization.
He joined GM as executive director of advertising services in 1985 and later became executive director of advertising and strategic merchandising on the former Marketing and Product Planning Staff. He came to GM after 21 years with the New York advertising agency of Benton & Bowles, Inc. (now D'Arcy, Masius, Benton & Bowles).
Guarascio was born June 28, 1941, in New York City. He received a bachelor's degree in English from Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio, in 1962.
He is on the board of directors for the Audit Bureau of Circulations, the Association of National Advertisers (ANA), vice chairman of the Advertising Council and vice president of the Adcraft Club of Detroit. He is past chairman of the ANA and also serves on its executive committee.
