A former president of the Adams Hill Homeowners Association, Glynda Gomez said she feels passionately about public safety and quality of life for families in Glendale.

Gus Gomez said he would support his wife's candidacy.

``I think she's the best-qualified candidate to succeed me on the council and I think she has a lot of the same goals in mind that I've had, including public safety and protecting open space,'' he said. ``She's been a prosecutor for more than 10 years and she's very active in the community.''

Gus Gomez plans to resign in January, when he is sworn in as a judge. The council will operate with only four members until the city's election on April 5.

Quintero said name recognition should not matter in the race. ``My feeling is everyone on City Council should be judged on their merits, so I'm all for people throwing their names in the hat.''
