GLOBAL HAWK PACT GIVEN FIRMS TO MAKE BETTER WING FOR SPY PLANE.

PALMDALE - Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) is an aerospace and defense conglomerate that is the result of the 1994 purchase of Grumman by Northrop. The company is the third largest defense contractor for the U.S.  Corp. awarded a major subcontract to Vought Aircraft Industries and Alliant Techsystems Alliant Techsystems NYSE: ATK is a major US aerospace and defense contractor with sales of approximately USD $3.6 billion (fiscal year 2007) [1] and strong positions in propulsion, composite structures, munitions, precision capabilities, and civil and sporting  (ATK ATK - Andrew Toolkit ) for fabrication fabrication (fab´rikā´shn),
n the construction or making of a restoration.
 of an improved wing for the Global Hawk unmanned reconnaissance plane.

The new wing is one of a number of improvements Northrop Grumman is making so the computer-piloted spy plane can carry more reconnaissance gear or fuel while maintaining its performance.

Vought and ATK will help to develop the design, produce the required tooling and fabricate two enhanced prototype wings under this contract, which includes options for future production lots of the enhanced wing configuration.

While Vought is an existing subcontractor on the Global Hawk program, ATK is an addition.

Work under this subcontract will be conducted at Vought facilities in Dallas, and at ATK facilities in Clearfield, Utah; Rocket Center, W.Va., and Iuka, Miss.

Work will begin immediately, and delivery of the first two prototype wings is scheduled for 2004. Follow-on production contracts would continue through 2010.

The Global Hawks are assembled at Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale.
