GLENDALE ARTIST EXHIBITS TALENTS AT NATIONAL ARTS SHOWCASE.

Artist Mateo Robert Tannatt of Glendale is participating in ARTS Week '97 in Miami.

Tannatt, a Los Angeles County High School for the Arts Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA or Arts High) is a public high school that operates on the campus of California State University, Los Angeles. Though it shares facilities with the university, the two schools' activities tend to be separate.  student, is one of 124 seniors nationwide participating in the program, which rewards young artists with scholarships and cash awards. More than 7,800 students from across the country entered the program.

ARTS Week '97 - which concludes today - is the final phase of the 1996-97 Arts Recognition and Talent Search program of the Miami-based National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts The National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (known by the acronym NFAA honors the most talented high school seniors in the performing, visual and literary arts from the United States through the youngARTS program.(formerly known as the acronym ARTS). .

 presents individual awards and scholarships ranging from $100 to $3,000 to promising artistic high school seniors in the categories of dance, music, voice, photography, theater, visual arts and writing.

Tannatt, 17, whose achievements include having a painting exhibited at the Orlando Gallery in Sherman Oaks is receiving round-trip air transportation to Miami, hotel accommodations and meals with all expenses paid by NFAA.

NFAA is a nonprofit organization.

North Hollywood's Child Care Resource Center, a nonprofit and multiservice child-care agency, has received nearly $44,000 in grants from local organizations to help improve the quality of care children receive from the center.

The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation, Permanent Charities of the Entertainment Industry and California Community Foundation The California Community Foundation, located in Los Angeles, California serves all of Los Angeles County and is the United States' second-oldest community foundation. It has assets of over $1 billion and makes grants for several different charitable purposes.  all donated to the center's Resource Van and Library project.

The Resource Van and Library is stocked with books, toys and learning kits and features a staff of trained child development professionals, who upon request visit different child-care providers throughout the Valley.

Officials said the grants from the donors will keep the Resource Van and Library operating and increase the number of visits to child-care providers annually.

Los Angeles Pierce College

, celebrating its 50th anniversary, will hold a big-band dance featuring the Les Brown Band of Renown at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel Grand Ballroom on Feb. 7.

Pierce's dance theater will perform selections from five decades of dance to salute the college's 50th anniversary.

Chuck Cecil, producer of the ``Swinging Years'' radio program will be the master of ceremonies. School officials encourage those interested to purchase tickets for the event early.
