Answer: Agoura.

The Chargers, ranked No. 1 by the Daily News, made a big statement last weekend, routing defending Div. IV champion Santa Barbara 10-1 at the Dons' tournament.

It was for the consolation championship, but the victory was sweet for Agoura and coach Jason Rosenthal.

``We knew they were going to key on (Cal-bound star Meghan) Corso,'' Rosenthal said. Corso, the area's top player, was the Marmonte League's leading scorer last season.

Agoura (13-3) used its depth to dominate Santa Barbara, as five players scored two goals each. Great win, but what does it mean?

``We beat them once,'' Rosenthal said. ``It doesn't mean we can beat them a second time. It won't be that easy.''

Agoura and Santa Barbara have a lasting rivalry. The Dons beat Agoura by one goal in the 2000 final, and Agoura won the showdown in the 2001 title game. Santa Barbara won semifinal meetings in 2002 and 2005.

The Chargers were bounced to the consolation bracket at the Santa Barbara tournament after losing 5-4 to Whittier, No. 1 in Div. III, then rebounded with wins over Carlsbad, Wilson of Long Beach and Santa Barbara.

``That game (against Whittier) was right after our (Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. The Highlanders (7-3) lost 13-9 in the first meeting, but they have steadily improved in all areas since.

``The whole team is playing better together,'' Royal coach Devin Hurst said. ``Kathrine Price and Agnes Konopka are playing well, and our drivers, Angie Rampton and Kelly Palmberg, are starting to come alive.''

Royal will be looking to keep the game tight early. Agoura took a 5-0 lead last time before the Highlanders rallied to make the game interesting.

In a 13-2 romp Friday over Hoover of Glendale, the Falcons had 31 steals, and goalkeeper Rebecca Kandilian stopped 21 shots.

``We took everything away from the the inside,'' Crescenta Valley coach Jan Sakonju said. ``We forced them to take 7-foot shots. (Kandilian has) has been outstanding.''
