wasn't even built when the Pioneers last won a title.

So, the Pioneers didn't mind battling for another 2 1/2 hours Wednesday night to ensure their seniors wouldn't leave the gym without accomplishing the feat.

Providence rallied from a two-games-to-one deficit and a two-point hole late in the fourth game to record a 23-25, 25-22, 27-29, 26-24, 15-8 victory over two-time defending league champ Viewpoint of Calabasas.

``They were giving us every opportunity to win the (match), so we finally took it,'' said Providence coach James Jimenez, whose team secured at least a share of the program's first crown since 1999, with Viewpoint (18-4, 6-1) having one league match remaining against Buckley of Sherman Oaks.

``Obviously they wanted to win. It was senior night and they didn't want to stop playing volleyball. Viewpoint has been a hurdle HURDLE, Eng. law. A species of sledge, used to draw traitors to execution.  for us so many times, but we said if Viewpoint was going to win, we were going to make them earn every point.''

Viewpoint outside hitter Samantha Hyman caused several anxious moments for Jimenez and his players, recording 20 kills and 32 digs, including five during a crucial stretch of the third game that allowed the Patriots to fight off four game points and regain the advantage entering the fourth.

Hyman, who had two kills to tie the score at 24-24 in the fourth, couldn't produce similar magic in the deciding game as Providence (20-2, 7-1) relied on Heather Hansen Han·sen , Gerhard Henrik Armauer 1746-1845.

``We knew it was our last chance out there and we gave it everything we have,'' said Hansen, one of Providence's eight seniors. ``The championship was all we had on our mind.''

Melissa Rosal had 23 digs and Natalie Kasbarian added 35 assists and 18 digs for the Pioneers, who suffered a 21-25, 28-26, 17-25, 25-18, 15-10 loss Oct. 10 at Viewpoint. Samantha Borenstein recorded 41 assists and Samantha Tellez contributed 22 digs for the Patriots.
