GIRLS' SOCCER: TIE HURTS LOUISVILLE'S TITLE HOPES LOUISVILLE 0, CHAMINADE 0.

Byline: Erik Boal Special to the Daily News

For the second consecutive game, the fifth time in eight Mission League matches and the 10th time this season, the Louisville of Woodland Hills girls' soccer team recorded a shutout Not to be confused with Shootout.

In team sports, in American English, a shutout (a clean sheet in soccer) refers to a game in which one team prevents the opposing team from scoring. While possible, they are highly improbable in some sports, such as basketball.

The difference between Monday's contest against visiting Chaminade of West Hills and the other nine was that it might have cost the Royals a shot at the league title.

Louisville spent the majority of the second half on Chaminade's half of the field, but after scoring three times in Friday's victory over Alemany of Mission Hills, the Royals couldn't manufacture a goal against the Eagles, resulting in a frustrating frus·trate

``This result really hurt us,'' said Louisville coach Jose Perez, whose team recorded a 2-1 victory over the Eagles (7-6-2, 3-2-2) on Jan. 9 at Chaminade. ``The truth is, this is almost league for us. We almost couldn't afford to lose a point (in our last three games). When we were at (3-0-2), we had the league (title) in our hands, but if you can't score, you can't win.''

Louisville (8-4-8, 4-1-3) - the Daily News' fourth-ranked team - is still a point ahead of Harvard-Westlake of Studio City (10-2-3, 5-1) in the Mission League standings, although the Wolverines have played two fewer matches.

``It almost helps us because when you're on the road, you want to get a point any way you can,'' Chaminade coach Tracy Powell said. ``I just hope now that Flintridge beats Harvard-Westlake or Louisville, because if we can make it in the top three with a team of mostly underclassmen, that would be huge.''

``We can play beautiful soccer and possess the ball the entire game,'' Perez said. ``I just wish I had someone who can (consistently) score.''
