The Musketeers' real celebration came more than 20 minutes after the match when coach Frank Paletta informed them Agoura (8-1-6, 6-0-4) and Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  (7-6-2, 1-6-2) had played to a scoreless draw, moving Moorpark (9-6-3, 7-1-2) back into a tie for first place.

Moorpark's mood was a remarkably different one from the week before, when Agoura - ranked fourth by the Daily News - defeated the 10th-ranked Musketeers 4-0. But Moorpark rebounded Friday against one of the league's top defenses by turning in a dominant defensive effort of its own.

``(Agoura) was a valuable loss and a valuable lesson for our girls. We learned a lot from that loss,'' said Paletta, whose team moved into a tie with No. 9 Thousand Oaks (8-3-4, 5-2-3) for the league lead with its seventh shutout. ``We tried to be perfect (Friday). We focused on supporting your partner and everyone contributing, no matter how much they played. Everybody, from the starters to the girls who came off the bench, contributed.''

Jessica Dingman gave Moorpark the lead in the final 90 seconds of the first half, scoring off an assist from Hilary Lesiak. The goal broke Thousand Oaks' streak of more than 540 minutes of holding opponents scoreless. Before Friday's game, the Lancers lanc·er

``That was huge because it gave us more confidence (going into halftime),'' said Moorpark sophomore sweeper Kaitlin Paletta, who broke up a breakaway opportunity by the Lancers' Megan Meyer in the 60th minute. ``By their goalkeeper (Laura Brain) dropping the ball across the line, you could see their shoulders drop and their heads go down after that.''
