GIRLS' SOCCER: COUTIN'S LATE GOAL GIVES HART BIG WIN HART 3, CANYON 2.

Byline: Erik Boal Special to the Daily News

CANYON COUNTRY - Moments after Canyon of Canyon Country's Mikayla Schutz scored the tying goal in injury time Tuesday night, an uneasy Hart of Newhall crowd immediately questioned the referee A judicial officer who presides over civil hearings but usually does not have the authority or power to render judgment.

as to how much longer he was going to let the Foothill League girls' soccer rivals play.

Long enough for sophomore forward Sarina Coutin to score one of the most important goals of the Indians' season and one of the biggest in her 46-game career.

``You just have to keep playing until the final minute of the game. You can't ever give up,'' said Coutin, who also scored the tying goal in the 18th minute off a 50-yard free kick from sweeper Michelle Mason. ``I'm glad we didn't stop until the final whistle A simple whistle is a woodwind instrument which produces sound from a stream of forced air.

Although Coutin continued to add to her school record with her 33rd and 34th goals, it was Mason who was equally responsible for Hart (19-3-1, 6-1-0) snapping Canyon's 23-game league home unbeaten streak. Mason gave the Indians - the Daily News' fifth-ranked team - a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute, drilling a 35-yard free kick off the hands of Canyon goalkeeper For the close-in weapon system, see .

``We had to keep coming back because they never gave up,'' Mason said. ``They had a pretty good goal (to go ahead 1-0) that had good placement, so to be even at halftime was huge.''

Schutz gave Canyon (11-4-3, 4-3) a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute off an assist from Gina Walker. Schutz tied the score two minutes into injury time, before Coutin scored the 54th goal of her career shortly thereafter.

``The last five minutes were incredible,'' said Hart coach Louis Romero, whose team moved a step closer to its first league title since 2000. ``I'm very happy with the girls.''

Said Canyon coach Steve Ladanyi: ``I thought it was a great game and both teams played incredibly hard. And Sarina's goal was a money play.''
