GIRLS' BASKETBALL: REBELS UP FOR HOOPS.

The Quartz Hill High girls' basketball team literally has taken its summer play to new heights.

The Rebels, who are used to playing at the Antelope Valley's 2,700-foot altitude, played last week at the University of Wyoming UW is a national research university prominent in the fields of environment and natural resource research, specializing in agriculture, energy, geology, and water resource related fields.  Cowgirls basketball camp at an altitude of 7,200 feet. That was before traveling to this week's Lady Utes Basketball Camp at the University of Utah The University of Utah (also The U or the U of U or the UU), located in Salt Lake City, is the flagship public research university in the state of Utah, and one of 10 institutions that make up the Utah System of Higher Education. , which sits at 5,800 feet.

``We are getting in shape by playing a lot of games,'' Quartz Hill coach Steve Brumwell said. ``We are playing three to four games a day at high altitudes and it's getting us in good shape. We are coming together as a team.''

The Rebels, who left for the 17-day trip June 21, will be done with their basketball duties Wednesday. The team will use the final three days to go whitewater rafting.

``In between the two camps, we hiked, camped and went swimming at the Flaming Gorge Dam Flaming Gorge Dam, in a deep canyon of the Green River, NE Utah; built 1958–63 by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation as a major unit in the Colorado River storage project. The dam regulates the flow of the upper river and produces hydroelectricity.  (in Utah),'' Brumwell said. ``It's a lake-type reservoir and we were able to get on the boats and relax. We are bonding as a team on and off the court.''

After returning from the trip, which Brumwell said will give the Rebels 25 games in eight days, Quartz Hill will be playing at the College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  Tournament, Jack in the Box Classic in San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850.
