But in this league, believe it. Last season, Camarillo, Channel Islands and Rio Mesa finished in a three-way tie for first place, each with a 6-2 league record, and Harbour expects nothing less than another tight race this season. ``You can't take any game for granted in this league,'' said Harbour, who enters his second year as the Scorpions' girls' basketball coach. ``I think it will be us, Channel Islands and Rio Mesa in another battle once again.'' This year, however, the Scorpions may have the edge. They return 10 of 11 players (including four starters) from last year's team, which finished 14-13 overall and lost in the first round of the Division IV playoffs. But the one that got away will be the toughest for Camarillo to replace. A big part of the Scorpions' offense will be senior guard and co-captain Lauren Ferreira, who averaged 11.0 points and 8.2 rebounds per game last season. Lindsey Clark, a part-time starter last season (4.3 points, 3.4 rebounds), will step into Donahue's spot at the other forward position. ``Lauren has the ability to maybe play beyond high school,'' Harbour said. ``She runs the court well, and this is her chance to show people that she can shoot the ball. We try to move her around the court quite a bit.'' The backcourt back·court n. 1. Sports a. Lillich, a 5-foot-5 junior, returns after averaging 8.9 points per game last season, and Wismann, who earned league honorable-mention honors last season, will provide the Scorpions with a long-distance threat. Stangeby didn't see much time as a junior last season but gives the Scorpions a strong defensive effort. ``Gillian jumps well and is very strong, and she bench-presses about 145 pounds,'' Harbour said. ``Heather has very good instincts on the court.'' Leshelle Sargent, a 6-1 senior center, averaged 7.6 rebounds per game last season, and Harbour also expects big contributions from two sophomores, 6-foot forward Lauren Stroot and 5-11 guard Rachel Young. ``Lauren runs the court well, she jumps well and she's very powerful,'' Harbour said of Stroot, who led Camarillo's JV team with 14.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game last season. ``She played with the first team a lot this summer and gave a real challenge to our seniors.'' The Scorpions have accepted their own challenge, their schedule.
