As odd as it may seem, this year's Wolverines have more youth than postseason experience. A year after finishing with a sub-.500 record and missing the playoffs for the first time, Harvard-Westlake marked its return to the postseason looking more like the Wolverines of old than a bunch of postseason rookies.

The team with nine sophomores and no senior starters needed less than an hour to sweep visiting St. Matthias Matthias, 1557–1619, Holy Roman emperor (1612–19), king of Bohemia (1611–17) and of Hungary (1608–18), son of Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II. He was appointed governor of Austria (1593) by his brother, Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II.  of Downey 25-5, 25-8, 25-14 in Thursday's first round of the Southern Section Div. III-A playoffs.

The top-seeded Wolverines (20-5) advance to Saturday's quarterfinals. St. Matthias finishes with a 14-5 record.

``We're really excited,'' Harvard-Westlake sophomore Cathryn Quinn said. ``We weren't expecting this because we're very young. Next year should really be our year. But we've trained and we're ready. We're excited to keep going. We're pretty confident.''

The Wolverines scored the first seven points of game one and never looked back. In each game, they went on runs in which they scored eight consecutive points.

Harvard-Westlake used the opportunity to rest ailing starters and give experience to as many players as possible. Quinn, who missed practice this week because of strep throat Strep Throat Definition
