GIRLS' SOCCER NOTEBOOK: THOUSAND OAKS FACES A FAMILAR FOE TONIGHT.

The season is less than threeweeks old and already things are coming full circle for the Thousand Oaks girls' soccer team.

The Lancers' six-match winning streak and run of 440 consecutive minutes without surrendering a goal began with a 2-0 nonleague victory Nov. 28 against Buena of Ventura. After dominant runs through pool play and their two playoff matches, the teams will square off again at 7 tonight in the championship game of the Buena tournament.

``The reason that I entered us in these tournaments is because I wanted us to play the best teams around,'' Thousand Oaks coach Geoff Raives said. ``We know when we played Buena the first time, they didn't have their full team, but I think we've only improved since then.

``We need to be tested as much as possible before (Marmonte) league starts, and playing teams like this will only make us better prepared.''

Thousand Oaks defeated Oxnard and defending Southern Section Div. II co-champion San Marcos of Santa Barbara in Friday's pool play, before knocking off Chatsworth and Ventura to advance to the final.

One is one too few: The area's longest unbeaten girls' soccer run came to an end Saturday in Bakersfield as Hart of Newhall suffered a 2-1 loss to Buchanan of Clovis in the Premier Division championship game at the Garces tournament.

Hart (8-1-1), which allowed its first goal all season in a 3-1 semifinal victory over Stockdale of Bakersfield, couldn't win its second title in as many years at the Garces event, following a dominant run to last season's Gold Division title. The Indians had goals Saturday from Dominique Penaranda, Michelle Mason, Katie Kuykendall and Sarina Coutin.

It's good to be home: Sylmar still has to win the Valley Mission League, but the Spartans did a lot to help their cause for a possible top-five seed come City Section playoff time by winning their tournament Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Eagle Rock in the final.

Sylmar (11-2) defeated Eagle Rock and Cleveland of Reseda twice en route to the title. The Spartans, led by sweeper Isaura Velarde and goalkeeper Nicole Gonzalez, outscored opponents 20-0 in six tournament matches.

Just another Dei: With its 1-0 victory Saturday over Harvard-Westlake of Studio City, ElCamino Real advanced to the semifinals at the Mater Dei of Santa Ana tournament, the Conquistadores' first trip to the final four in three appearances in the elite event.

Unfortunately for ECR (3-2-2), standing in its way was the host Monarchs, who recorded a 2-0 victory to defeat the Conquistadores for the third consecutive year. ECR is 4-4-2 all-time in the Mater Dei tournament, with three losses coming to the Monarchs.
