GIRLS' SOCCER: OAK PARK GETS ASSIST FROM OAKS CHRISTIAN FOR TITLE.

Byline: ERIK BOAL Special to the Daily News

But Oak Park's biggest assist in capturing the Tri-Valley League girls' soccer championship came from rival Oaks Christian of Westlake Village.

Oak Park completed an impressive six-game run to close the regular season with a 2-1 victory Wednesday over host La Reina La Reina (Spanish: "The queen") is a commune of Chile located in Santiago Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region. But it wasn't until the Eagles (17-4-4, 9-2-1) learned of Oaks Christian's 1-0 triumph over St. Bonaventure of Ventura that they could celebrate an outright title.

``There is an irony. First it was Nordhoff helping us out (beating St. Bonaventure 2-1 on Monday), then Oaks Christian,'' said Oak Park coach Mark Zeolla, whose team rallied from third place at the midway point of league to overtake o·ver·take

``It was a last-game situation. But it was good it came down to the end. We were up for the challenge and I'm glad we came out on top.''

Even with the victory, Oaks Christian (11-6-1, 7-4-1) couldn't improve its fourth-place position after Nordhoff (14-8, 8-4) defeated St. Bonaventure.

But the Lions concluded the regular season with three consecutive wins, serving notice they have the potential to enjoy another successful postseason run.

``I don't think we've peaked yet,'' said Oaks Christian coach Jan Hethcock, whose team shared three straight Southern Section Div. V titles from 2003-05 before losing in the semifinals last year. ``If we can get through the first round, I think we're capable of making a run.''

Umann added an insurance goal -- her 10th of the season -- in the 75th minute, which proved instrumental because Mikayla Mejia scored three minutes "Three Minutes" is the 46th episode of Lost. Oak Park goalkeeper Brooke Mandell turned away several second-half opportunities to help the Eagles clinch their first victory against La Reina, after a 1-1 tie Dec. 15 in the Buena of Ventura tournament and a scoreless draw Jan. 22 in their previous league meeting.

``The league was tough all the way to the end and we were hoping to be at least co-champions,'' Zeolla said. ``When we were behind (in the standings), we were disappointed, but we practiced harder and we learned more. To come back from third place to win it is a big rebound.''
