The Pepperdine-bound McDonald saw this year's Southern Section Div. II girls' soccer playoffs as an opportunity to make up for lost time. It didn't take the senior long to do so Friday at Highland of Palmdale.

McDonald scored a minute into the game and added another goal midway through the first half to lead the Warriors to a 4-2 first-round victory, snapping the Bulldogs' home unbeaten streak at 15.

"I've struggled this entire season," said McDonald, who had two goals Wednesday in a 4-1 wild-card win over Pasadena. "Last year was so much better for me before I got injured, but I think I'm proving myself at the right time."

A healthy, motivated McDonald never gave Highland (12-5-7) an opportunity to get started Friday, corralling two Kirsten DiPippo free kicks inside the goalkeeper box and scoring to increase her total to seven goals in the past four games.

DiPippo scored off a a 22-yard free kick to give Westlake (11-2-8) a 3-0 lead at halftime and Andrea Todak added the fourth goal in the 55th minute.

"What really hurts is it's the first time all year we've had the whole team together. But those errors in the beginning were too much to overcome."

We knew they had a big unbeaten streak here at home and we tried to end it."
