and matches have been played for Canyon High to recover from its humbling three-goal loss at Valencia.

But the Cowboys didn't forget the beating inflicted by the Vikings in the Foothill League opener on Jan. 3. Canyon held an impromptu A Windows query and reporting tool from Cognos with support for a large variety of databases. It is capable of generating cross tabs for spreadsheets such as Excel, Lotus for Windows and Quattro Pro for Windows.  Saturday practice after tying Saugus, its second consecutive draw, on Friday.

``We've had a couple games where we were inconsistent. . . . Like the other Valencia game,'' Canyon senior defender Amanda Branam said.

Whatever the ploy was, extra practice or just plain pride, it lifted the Cowboys past Valencia 2-0 Tuesday night at Canyon.

No. 6 Canyon (16-1-5, 3-1-2) probably needed a win to remain in the Foothill League championship chase after its back-to-back ties. Fifth- ranked Valencia (16-2-2, 4-2) could have stretched its lead after Saugus and Hart had played to a scoreless draw. Canyon also tied Hart 0-0.

``I challenged them on no uncertain terms,'' Canyon coach Gregg Cohen cohen

The Cowboys were boosted by the return of senior forward Vicky Duffy, out all of Foothill League play with a severe ankle sprain ankle sprain Orthopedics A stretching of the ankle ligaments and/or muscles with swelling . But it was junior midfielder Jamie Rendich providing the kickstart.

Rendich scored both goals, her 12th and 13th of the year.

) Hart, because we put all our heart into that and we had lots of good shots,'' Rendich said.

Canyon didn't have endless opportunities against the Vikings. But the Cowboys' first goal couldn't have been executed any better. In the 10th minute, freshman Jenna Shay's cross from the left side was headed by Rendich past Valencia goalkeeper Jaisa Creps.

``We do good when we switch the ball and play one-touch and get crosses off,'' Rendich said.

Valencia coach Tony Scalercio even appreciated Canyon's efficiency on the play.

``They earned that goal. It was a very good goal and there's nothing we can do about that,'' Scalercio said. ``Losing to Canyon wasn't the end of the world. . . . Canyon was the better team tonight.''

Canyon effectively kept the Vikings out of its zone throughout the second half. But Valencia's Courtney Morgan almost evened the score in the first half when her low trajectory shot beat Cowboys goalkeeper Lyndsay Taylor and deflected de·flect

Rendich worked free in the penalty area and tucked her shot into the left side of the net in the last two minutes to seal the victory.
