Conway, a junior, made it past the Individual Finals for the first time in her high school career and liked the course better this time around.

``The conditions were a lot better than what I remember last year,'' Conway said. ``There wasn't much wind and it was only cold for about the first eight holes. The greens were a bit fast, but they were pretty good.''

Conway warmed up on the back nine, shooting three-under par to negate a three-over front nine. Her bogey on the last hole put her at one-over on the par 73 course.

But aside from the early setbacks, Conway knew she was going to advance this year.

``I already told my teachers that I wouldn't be there Monday,'' Conway said. ``So I'm glad I made it.''

Burroughs of Burbank's Emily Tubert, the area's only freshman competing at the finals, missed the cut by two strokes, chipped in two shots, one an eagle on hole 18.

``It was definitely a learning experience,'' Tubert said. ``It was the biggest tournament I've played in. I'll be working on my short game, getting it together for next season.''

Valencia, the Foothill League champion, had three representatives in the tournament.

Notre Dame coach Ann McClung was happy Salvo made the cut, and thinks that her best golf is still yet to come.
