, freshman Emily Frake scored on a fast break and the Lions held on defense for a hard-fought 48-45 Div. II-AA first-round victory at home.

"That was enormous when the big girl fouled out," said Oaks Christian coach Don McMaster. "We knew they had a good post player. Our plan was to just pack it in and let them shoot outside. We don't have anyone who could match up with her.

"All we have on our team are guards. But we played great defense all night."

It didn't hurt Oaks Christian (15-9) that Warren picked up two first-quarter fouls and sat for over nine minutes in the first half. Oaks Christian went on a 9-0 run to grab the early advantage.

Warren brought Los Osos (14-11) back in the third quarter from a five- point halftime deficit with eight points, and the Grizzles went ahead, 30-27 with 2:24 left.

Michelle Clark, who has signed with Purdue, scored 24 points to lead the Lions. Clark hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with threeminutes remaining to tie the score 41-41.

Clark then hit two free throws with 19.2 seconds remaining to give the Lions a four-point lead and essentially seal the game.

Clark and Carlisle, the Lions' top two scoring threats, combined to shoot 9 of 32 from the field but were saved by going 13 of 14 from the charity stripe stripe - data striping .

"We were horrible shooting the ball from the outside," McMaster said.

"That was by far our worst shooting performance of the season. If we want to continue in these playoffs, we can't afford another game like this."

Warren scored 16 points to lead the Grizzles, and Kyla Smith added 12.
