From start to finish, Monrovia (18-4, 10-0) controlled the game.

Up 19-11 after La Canada's Joy Lelo made a 3-pointer with 1:28 left in the first quarter, the Wildcats went on a 12-0 run over the next 3:30, led by sophomore Vanessa Hernandez.

The Wildcats' sharpshooter connected on six of her game-high 24 points during that period by making two 3s.

"I told my girls that Monrovia just hit their shots tonight," La Canada coach Tamar Hill said. "We had an opportunity to take care of business last time at home and we didn't do it.

"Today was their senior night and they sure made it memorable -- at least for themselves."

Hill could only watch with frustration as the Spartans fell behind by 15 at halftime and 16 by the end of the third.

One of La Canada's bright spots was Lelo. The senior finished with a team-high 22 points and seven rebounds.

But like her teammates, even Lelo struggled, shooting 5 of 18 from the field and 10 of 17 from the free-throw line free-throw line
