GIRL LIED ABOUT HER BEING LEFT.

PANORAMA CITY - A 12-year-old girl who told authorities she had been abandoned by a man hired to take her and her mother across the border and then raped in Panorama City, lied and is in fact a runaway, police said Thursday.

Alvarado said the girl came from Guatemala three years ago and has been living with a guardian in the Rampart area of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  for the last two years. She ran away on March 2 and has been living on the streets in Panorama City.

The girl is in the custody of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. Investigators will also try to determine whether her guardian was properly caring for her.

Police said they expect to pursue misdemeanor misdemeanor, in law, a minor crime, in contrast to a felony. At common law a misdemeanor was a crime other than treason or a felony.
