Monday's storm, which dropped about an inch of rain on the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. Later in the day, a car spun out of control on the Antelope Valley Freeway near Via Princessa, causing the brief closure of the southbound lanes. Details were unavailable in the late afternoon.

Vladimir Rushko, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service, said the storm should let up this morning, though another one is due to move in by evening, he said.

A third storm is expected late Thursday or early Friday, Rushko said.

``There will be a brief lull and then the next storm will come in,'' Rushko said. ``There will be brief breaks.''

Monday's rain marked the beginning of Southern California's anticipated wet winter season, Rushko said. Earlier rains were more tropical, he said.

Valley areas received one-fourth to three-fourths inch of rain, while the mountain areas received 1 to 2 inches, Rushko said.

High temperatures for the Santa Clarita Valley this week are expected to reach the low 60s, and lows are expected in the 50s, Rushko said.
