GIRL COLLAPSES, DIES ON CAMPUS SCHOOL OFFICIALS DIDN'T TRY TO REVIVE STUDENT, PARAMEDICS CLAIM.

RESEDA - Coroner's officials were investigating the sudden death of a 13-year-old student at the Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies (also Sherman Oaks CES or SOCES) is a (magnet) public school in the San Fernando Valley, Southern California, United States.  on Tuesday afternoon.

The eighth-grader, identified as Vanessa Escobedo of Sylmar, was walking toward the cafeteria cafeteria: see restaurant.  when she fell face-down at the Erwin Street school, officials and witnesses said.

``She was walking out to lunch and the student just collapsed,'' said school Principal Larry Rubin. ``It's an absolute tragedy. It just rips your heart out.''

Coroner's officials were trying to determine the cause of the girl's death.

The principal said the girl had dizzy spells a couple of months ago. Her parents took her to a doctor, who prescribed pre·scribe

``Nobody was doing anything. All the student body was out, and they didn't do anything. They just watched her lie there,'' Quinn said.

Several students who saw the girl fall acknowledged that no school officials attempted life-saving techniques.

``Probably everyone's trying to point fingers,'' said Rubin, who added that he did not see the collapsed teen-ager until after paramedics arrived.

A crowd of students joined hands on an outdoor stage on campus and prayed for their classmate as firefighters worked in an effort to save her.

The school's psychologist met with the victim's close friends and the principal held a meeting after school to talk to her teachers and other staff members.

``It's a tragic loss for the whole school, the community and the family,'' the principal said. ``Especially with the loss of someone who's so young and has so much to live for.''
