Singles ERIN EVERLY Erin Invicta Everly (born November 8 1965 in Los Angeles ,California) is the daughter of Don Everly, and niece to Phil Everly from the Everly Brothers, and actress Venetia Stevenson. Her siblings are sister Stacy Everly and brother Edan Everly. Junior, Calabasas Everly joined Wiesener to give Calabasas (20-2) an automatic six points in nearly every match. Everly was 46-2 in the regular season. Then she showed her versatility by switching to doubles for the Frontier League tournament. She combined with Celia Durkin to win the doubles title at the Southern Section individuals. JESSICA LECK Senior, Harvard-Westlake Leck led the Wolverines (18-2) to the Division IV semifinals, where they lost to eventual champion Corona Corona, city, United States Corona (kərō`nə), city (1990 pop. 76,095), Riverside co., S Calif.; inc. 1896. JESSICA NGUYEN Jessica Nguyen was born on November 24, 1987, and she is a tennis player for Stanford University. College career As a freshman she had a 14-2 record in singles, including an unblemished 9-0 mark in dual matches. Freshman, Granada Hills Nguyen and Granada Hills (15-1) easily were the class of area City teams. Only a freshman, she won her first 15 sets to put the Highlanders in the final. There she lost for the first time to Carson junior Judith DeVera, and Granada Hills fell 4-3. But the Highlanders will have plenty of opportunities to win a City title if Nguyen plays three more years. Doubles ASHLEY GOODWIN and LAUREN HAWTHORNE Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. The duo went 52-3, including 5-1 in the playoffs, and won the Pacific League doubles title. This will be their last year together as Goodwin is a senior. But Hawthorne, a sophomore, will be back to try to continue the winning streak. The Coyotes were the area's top team because of their doubles play as well. Fink, a freshman, and Solomon, a junior, combined for a 33-3 record, including an 8-1 mark in the playoffs. Fink is also an impressive singles player who was 43-5 in the regular season. Honorable Mention Olga Yepremian, Burbank; Jennifer Segar, Chaminade; Daron Moore, Campbell Hall Campbell Hall can refer to:
Biggest Disappointment No area team won a championship. Only one even made it to a final. Calabasas and Harvard-Westlake, the area's top teams, suffered from playing in Division IV, where the toughest tennis in the Southern Section is played. Corona del Mar, the top team in the state, ousted Harvard- Westlake in the semifinals, where Calabasas was also defeated by Palm Desert. Campbell Hall of North Hollywood also fell in the semifinals, losing 10-8 to Laguna Beach Laguna Beach (ləg `nə), city (1990 pop. 23,170), Orange co., S Calif., on the Pacific coast; founded 1887, inc. 1927. in Division V.
Granada Hills cruised into the City final but lost 4-3 to Carson for the second consecutive year. Biggest Surprise Simi Valley started 11-0 behind the singles play of Stacy Gunawan and strong doubles teams. The Pioneers lost to quality teams, twice to Westlake and in the first round of the playoffs to Crescenta Valley. The Pioneers got a big lift from the basketball team, which sent over Dominique Narciso and Nikki Pascual. The two had never played tennis before, but they quickly learned that ``nothing but the bottom of the net'' is a bad thing. They immediately strengthened Simi Valley's doubles teams. Narciso and Pascual, both seniors, went through a hectic hec·tic adj. 1. They would go to basketball practice at 6:30 a.m., go to classes and then play tennis until 6 p.m. And then there was homework. Often reloading is done to take advantage of lower interest rates offered by other loans, and potential tax benefits. this offseason to stay at the level to which it is accustomed. The only premier player returning for the Wolverines is Amber Harper, who will be a sophomore and would make a solid No. 2 singles player next season with the potential to be a No. 1 player in the future. Lost are Leck and senior Alex MacLennan. MacLennan, who hopes to join former Harvard-Westlake player Stephanie Berg at Princeton next year, didn't play in the second half of the season in order to concentrate on academics and other interests. With Harvard-Westlake's tradition and reputation, the Wolverines are sure to attract a few top players and contend again next season. COMING BACK STRONG Calabasas and Granada Hills have been the top area teams in the Southern and City sections, respectively, for each of the past two years. There is no sign of their dominance slowing. In 2002, both teams might even be better. The Coyotes are returning their fearsome fear·some adj. 1. Granada Hills could take solace that Carson is graduating most players while the Highlanders are only losing one. Top players Nguyen and Christine Dao are expected to return, though it is possible Nguyen will transfer to a school such as Harvard-Westlake. Following the loss to Carson in the final, Nguyen was thinking about returning. ``It definitely makes me want to come back,'' Nguyen said. ``They're going to lose a lot of people and we are bringing a lot back. Next year should be our year.'' ON THE MOVE Calabasas will have a new league to abuse next season. The Coyotes are moving to the Marmonte League, bad news for usual Marmonte king Westlake. Calabasas prepared for the transition by scheduling future league opponents this year. The Coyotes went 3-0 against the Marmonte League, including an 18-0 win over Westlake, which was undefeated in league play.
