GIRL'S SOCCER PREVIEW HAVING TO ADJUSTS AGAIN NO. 2 HART GETS THIRD COACH IN TWO YEARS.

Byline: Chris Cocoles Staff Writer

Two years ago, Hart High sophomores Ali Pavoni and Mandy Mansfield were celebrating a Southern Section Division II girls' soccer co- championship. Now seniors, they didn't expect the subsequent two years to have such instability.

After the 1998-99 Indians shared the section championship with Irvine Woodbridge, long-time Hart coach Oliver Germond stepped down. Costa Nicolaou replaced him but left after just one season.

Hart, ranked second in the Daily News preseson poll and seeking a seventh consecutive Foothill League championship, has its third head coach in as many years.

``It's hard for everybody,'' new coach Juan Arias said. ``Remember, every coach has different ideas of how they want to play. For them, every time a new coach comes, they have to change.

``What I'm doing is I don't want them to have to change that fast right now. I want to let them play the way they've been playing.''

Certainly, Hart plays the game well, with a group of eight seniors who won back-to-back league titles and the previously mentioned section championship.

``Every single coach has been different. Some are dedicated, some are not. . . We've all played different ways,'' said Pavoni, a forward and one of the region's top players.

``I think the hardest thing is (the new coaches) don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

us. (Germond) had been here for six years so he watched us grow up playing before we got here. Whereas it's hard on (Arias) because he's never seen us play before.''

``Especially because we got all the way to the finals and then you lose in the first round,'' Pavoni said. ``It's a big disappointment.

``I think every time we come out and play, especially because there's so many seniors on our team, we treat every game like it will be our last. . . We've got to go out there and play hard.''

The Indians' players blame themselves for last season's early postseason exit.

``It just didn't work out the way we wanted it to. It wasn't the coach or anything like that,'' said Mansfield, who added Hart's team chemistry is always a positive.

``A lot of us have been playing together since we were 11 and 12 years old. We grew up playing on travel teams together. Coming to high school and seeing it all come together.''

The Indians lost their opener 2-0 to Arcadia and face a brutal stretch next week in matches with Chaminade and Chatsworth.

``I can totally feel that the pressure's on us now, the seniors,'' Pavoni said. ``I like that. It's fun because hopefully I'll be able to fulfill ful·fill also ful·fil
