GIRL, 4, TAKEN WITH CARJACKED SUV.

NORTHRIDGE - A 4-year-old girl was inside an SUV when it was carjacked from her mother Friday afternoon in a Costco parking lot, police said.

The mother was outside the 1999 black Lexus 450 sport utility vehicle when a man in a yellow baseball cap hit her on the head with an unknown object, then jumped in the vehicle, police said.

``He took off and her 4-year-old daughter was in the car,'' said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police spokesman Officer Don Cox.

A second man came up, grabbed the mother's purse, then jumped in a white SUV and followed the black SUV out of the parking lot, Cox said.

The mother made an emotional plea late Friday night for her daughter's safe return, KCAL-TV (Channel 9) reported.

The suspect in the black Lexus was last seen driving northbound on Tampa in the vehicle, California license plate 4DIM128, police said.

The child has black hair and brown eyes, and is 3 feet tall, weighing 34 pounds, police said.

She was wearing a navy blue T-shirt with an orange soccer ball on the front, navy blue pants with orange stripes down each side and blue tennis shoes, Moore said.

The woman was treated at the scene for injuries to her head, said Los Angeles police Officer Jason Lee.

Police were searching the area with a helicopter and ground units, he said.

Anyone who has seen the SUV was asked to call authorities.
