GIRL, 16, ROBBED IN A TERRIFYING ATTACK; Bid to find man who helped victim.

A TEENAGE girl was beaten up and robbed by three youths as she walked through a lane in Barry.

The 16yearold was attacked and left with bruises to her face and body after the men snatched her jewellery at about 10.30pm on Wednesday.

The terrifying assault, which took place off Gladstone Road and Woodlands Road, only came to an end when a passing man intervened, causing the robbers to flee.

They made off with a silver necklace with an ``N'' initial pendant and a silver charm Silver Charm (born February 22 1994) is an American Champion Thoroughbred race horse.

Trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Gary Stevens, Silver Charm won the 1997 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes before falling short of the Triple Crown by placing second in the Belmont
 bracelet.

Police officers are now appealing for the mystery Good Samaritan to come forward to help them piece together the incident.

Pc Mike Todd, of Barry's crime prevention department, said: ``This is a very frightening incident for a young female and we would ask anybody with information about this disgraceful attack to contact us.''

He described the attackers as white youths. One was wearing a cream jumper while the other two wore dark hooded tops.

The victim, who has not been named, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales University Hospital of Wales (referred to locally as "the Heath" or UHW), opened in 1971, is situated on the outskirts of central Cardiff, Wales.

It is also the third largest University Hospital in the United Kingdom providing 24 hour Accident & Emergency and various
 for treatment but was released later that night.

Police believe the incident was a random attack.

Vale of Glamorgan councillor Margaret Wilkinson, of the Barry Buttrills ward, said: ``I'm appalled for the young woman and I hope it's a oneoff occurrence.''

She added: ``Residents do complain from time to time about gangs of youths gathering in places but police then do a swoop.
