GINGRICH ALLY BLAMES LAWYER FOR MISINFORMATION.

Newt Gingrich gave false information to the House ethics committee ethics committee A multidisciplinary hospital body composed of a broad spectrum of personnel–eg, physicians, nurses, social workers, priests, and others, which addresses the moral and ethical issues within the hospital. See DNR, Institutional review board. , one of his closest confidants conceded Thursday. The colleague blamed it on a lawyer who recently left as the leader of Gingrich's defense team.

Rep. John Linder John Elmer Linder (born September 9 1942), American politician, has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1993, representing Georgia's 7th congressional district (map).  said documents signed by Gingrich and submitted to the committee by the lawyer obviously conflicted with statements Gingrich had previously made to the panel.

But he said that if Gingrich had intended to mislead mis·lead

In another twist late in the day, the lawyer, Jan Baran, and Gingrich's press secretary, Tony Blankley Anthony "Tony" Blankley (born 1948 in London, United Kingdom) is an Executive Vice President with Edelman public relations in Washington, a Visiting Senior Fellow in National-Security Communications at the Heritage Foundation, co-host of the nationally syndicated public radio , issued a statement declaring that the lawyer continued to represent the speaker, though not directly before the ethics committee.

Baran's sudden exit Saturday as Gingrich's chief attorney in the case followed a week of private meetings by an ethics subcommittee that is considering whether to charge Gingrich with violating House standards of conduct.

The panel is investigating whether Gingrich ran afoul of a·foul of  
prep.
1. In or into collision, entanglement, or conflict with.

2. Up against; in trouble with: ran afoul of the law. 
 tax law in financing a college course, and whether he gave accurate and complete statements to investigators.

The House election for speaker will be Jan. 7.

Baran defended himself Wednesday, commenting: ``I wish to make clear that my firm did not submit any material information to the ethics committee without Mr. Gingrich's prior review and approval.
