GIFT TOWARD CRASH CART FIRM MAKES DONATION TO HOSPITAL.

VALENCIA - Code Red, a teen volunteer group based at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, raised $1,100 to buy a pediatric pediatric /pe·di·at·ric/ (pe?de-at´rik) pertaining to the health of children.

The cart uses a color-coding system to quickly estimate a child's weight, basic information needed to treat the patient.

``Medication and equipment dosage for a child is based on their weight,'' said Mark Wallerstein, director of emergency services emergency services Emergency care '…services …necessary to prevent death or serious impairment of health and, because of the danger to life or health, require the use of the most accessible hospital available and equipped to furnish those services'  for Newhall Memorial. ``This will make their treatment more precise.''

The check was presented to the hospital's Health Foundation by Code Red President Anthony Lai during a volunteer recognition brunch held April 29.

``The Emergency Department is truly grateful for all the hard work and dedication by the Code Red team,'' Wallerstein said.

``We worked hard, but we truly wanted to provide this piece of equipment for children who have to come into the hospital emergency room,'' said Lai.

, dedicated, educated, responsible, enthusiastic, donating, consists of teens who volunteer countless hours in different units throughout the hospital, or assist in the hospital's mission of improving the health of our community through compassion and excellence in health-care services.

In addition to their volunteer efforts and fund-raising, the teens support the hospital by assisting with patient morale. In the past, they have made valentines, decorated pumpkins and sung Christmas carols A Christmas carol is a carol whose lyrics center on the theme of Christmas or that has become associated with the Christmas season even though its lyrics may not specifically refer to Christmas. Both types of Christmas carols are included in this list. .

The support group originally began as a means for the hospital 14- to 18-year-old volunteers to interact with patients and staff members.

``It's not only a great way to show potential colleges how much you care about your community, but learn social skills and the aspects of managing an organization,'' Lai said.
