GETTING WIGGAN ROOM BURROUGHS RB SCORES 4 TDS IN TRIUMPH BURROUGHS 25, MUIR 18.

Byline: ERIK BOAL Special to the Daily News

PASADENA -- Joe Wiggan wanted to be regarded as one of the top running backs in the Foothill League.

resulting in the Indians' move to the Pacific League, Wiggan knew he would have to be content with making an impression against a new group of opponents.

Count defending league champion Muir of Pasadena at the top of that list after visiting Burroughs pulled off a 25-18, come-from-behind football victory Friday.

The 5-foot-10, 173-pound Wiggan rushed for 240 yards on 39 carries, including 140 in the second half, and scored all four Indians INDIANS. The aborigines of this country are so called.

 touchdowns.

``I'm not going to cry about what's in the past and things I can't control,'' said Wiggan, who scored on second-half runs of 3, 5 and 8 yards, the last one coming with 2:47 remaining, capping Burroughs' rally from an 18-7 halftime deficit. ``I'm just going to come out and try my best. Whatever league we're in or whoever we play, I'm always going to try my best.''

Wiggan, who rushed for more than 200 yards for the third time this season, gave Burroughs (6-1 overall, 4-0 Pacific) -- ranked No. 13 by the Daily News -- a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter on a 13-yard run.

But three Indians turnovers, and 107 first-half rushing yards and a touchdown by Willie Youngblood, helped Muir (5-2, 3-1) -- who also received scores from Allan Dixon and Rashan Tillman -- seize seize

 the momentum.

Youngblood, who entered the game as the league's leading rusher, had only three second-half carries for 11 yards.

As a result, Muir -- ranked No. 3 in the Southern Section Central Division -- had its 10-game league winning streak Noun 1. winning streak - a streak of wins

 by top-ranked Burroughs.

``We came back because we're in great shape, not because we have better athletes than they do,'' Burroughs coach Keith Knoop said.

An interception by the Indians' David Eadler with 48seconds remaining sealed the victory.

``We're going to be better conditioned than anyone we play. That's what we have to do if we want to be champions,'' Knoop said.

going both ways, Wiggan carried the ball 25 times in the second half, including two crucial fourth-down conversions that kept the Mustangs' defense on the field.

``That's exactly what (Joe) does,'' said Knoop, whose team ran 33 second-half plays to Muir's 16. ``He's a big, strong kid and he trusts our offensive line.''

Said Wiggan: ``I've been waiting for this game since the preseason and it feels great. I owe it all to the conditioning the coaches give us. They know what they're doing and they put us in a position to win.''
